Troon announced it has been selected to manage Sparrows Point Country Club, a private club in Baltimore, Maryland. Troon will manage club operations and agronomy.

Overlooking Bear Creek, a tributary to the Chesapeake Bay, Sparrows Point Country Club was originally founded in 1925 by the Bethlehem Steel Company. Nearly 30 years later, in 1952, the club moved to its current location and architect William Gordon was commissioned to build nine holes. By 1961, aided by a booming steel industry, the club was expanded to 27 holes. Today, Sparrows Point features an 18-hole championship course.

“A transformational time at Sparrows Point Country Club is ahead of us and Troon’s strong foundation and leadership will help make Sparrows Point CC a top club in Baltimore in the coming years,” co-owner and president Conor O. Gilligan said. “Troon’s existing presence in the market make them the best option to manage all aspects of the club.  We celebrate our 100th anniversary next year and couldn’t be more excited to enhance the member experience at the clubhouse, on the course and on the water.”

Construction on The Cove at Sparrows Point Country Club is currently underway by Beazer Homes and Sparrows Point Country Club Owner Craftsmen Cos. Located adjacent to the country club, The Cove will feature upscale townhomes, age-targeted villas and single-family homes with club membership opportunities included with the purchase. Home sales are expected to begin in the winter of 2025. In conjunction with the new community, Sparrows Point Country Club will soon undergo a multi-phase facility renovation project over the next five years, to include:

  • A new golf course irrigation system
  • A relocated and improved driving range and short game facility designed by Weiman Golf Design
  • A new putting course designed by Weiman Golf Design
  • New tennis and pickleball courts
  • Rerouted golf holes
  • New turf on the golf course
  • Bunker renovations
  • Cart path replacement
  • Clubhouse renovations
  • Pier replacement and enhancements
  • Pool and pool deck renovations
  • Relocation of the course maintenance facility

“Sparrows Point Country Club has a storied history and an incredibly exciting future,” Troon vice president of operations Justin Smith said. “We are excited to partner with Sparrows Point Country Club and look forward to elevating the member experience.”
