Troon announced it has been selected to manage the Max A Mandel Municipal Golf Course in Laredo, Texas. Indigo Sports, a Troon company, will oversee golf operations, agronomy, and sales and marketing for the daily-fee golf facility.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones II and owned by the City of Laredo, “The Max” cuts through 270-acres of sandy and rugged Texas terrain with four holes playing along the Rio Grande River and six playing through deep arroyos. The course opened for play in 2012 and is named after Max A Mandel, a Laredo banker and civic leader, whose family donated the land for the project.
“We are thrilled to be engaged with the City of Laredo at The Max,” said interim general manager Robbie Kearney, PGA. “Our team is improving service levels, while enhancing club operations and agronomic conditions. We are immediately focused on the greens and bringing them back to their former award-winning standards. Partnering with the City of Laredo, we have already overseeded the greens with Poa trivialis and ryegrass, which will have them in excellent condition by mid-November. Long term, our agronomy team is taking steps to ensure guests enjoy consistent and sustainable playing conditions year-round.”
