Tees, fairways, bunkers, greens and a new irrigation system are all part of the Landscapes Unlimited renovation plan for the 44-year-old Dallas Metroplex course.

Landscapes Unlimited will oversee an extensive renovation of Sherrill Park Golf Course No. 2 in Richardson, Texas, located about 30 minutes north of Dallas.

Central to the project is the remodeling of tees, fairways, bunkers and greens, and the installation of a state-of-the-art irrigation system. Landscapes Unlimited and Greenscapes Six are collaborating closely on the planning and construction of the layout originally designed by Leon Howard in 1980 and re-designed by D.A. Weibring and Steve Wolfard in 2021.

The course is owned and operated by the City of Richardson.

“Sherrill Park No. 2’s layout is interesting, fun and often shows relative bite to golfers of all skill levels,” said Larry Barefield, senior project manager for Landscapes Unlimited. “Working alongside Greenscapes Six and its experienced team brings together a treasure trove of talent to lift No. 2 up to modern standards.”

Despite Sherrill Park No. 2’s wide fairways and an abundance of scoring opportunities, trouble occasionally pops up on the 4,810- to 6,375-yard, par 70 course. The opening hole requires a carry over a creek traversing the fairway to a severely sloped green that makes putts fiendish. At nearly 300 yards, the sixth hole is also bold with water left of the green and a huge bunker protecting it. The final hole, a par 4, plays tough on approach shots facing scary greenside bunkers.
