Heritage Golf Group announced the purchase of the Shackamaxon Country Club, a century-old private club in Union County, New Jersey. Shackamaxon, which features an 18-hole A.W. Tillinghast-designed golf course, is the ninth property to join the Heritage Golf Group portfolio of private country clubs and high-end daily fee golf courses since last year.
“Shackamaxon is an outstanding Tillinghast golf course with a rich tradition of family-oriented amenities – a profile that aligns with our interest to own and operate high-quality private clubs in community environments,” said Mark Burnett, Heritage Golf Group CEO and President. “We look forward to creating an environment that reflects what current and prospective members want and expect from the club experience.”
Chris Hanns has been hired for the general manager position. Hanns has many years of experience running private clubs and is an outstanding leader. He has held general manager roles at PGA WEST in La Quinta, California, as well as other prominent clubs in Las Vegas, Houston, and Maryland.
“Being the GM of a vibrant private country club has been my passion since starting in the industry as a PGA Professional in upstate New York,” Hanns said. “I am excited to join the Heritage Golf Group team and work with the Shackamaxon members and community to provide an excellent private club experience for all.”
Golf course improvements planned in 2021 include the practice range along with targeted tee boxes, bunkers, fairways, and golf cart paths. Ownership and club leadership is working with the members to activate a board of advisors and member committees to provide advice and counsel on operating improvements and additional strategic capital reinventions.
