Omya launches GreenLight for turfgrass management

Developed for golf courses, sports fields and amenity grass, GreenLight neutralizes soil acidity to adjust pH for nutrient availability and fertilizer use efficiency.

Omya, a global producer of industrial minerals, has launched GreenLight, a portfolio of granulated soil conditioning and turf nutrition products for the U.S. turf and ornamental market.

Developed for golf courses, sports fields and amenity grass, GreenLight neutralizes soil acidity to adjust pH to the optimal level for nutrient availability and fertilizer use efficiency. It releases calcium into the soil, improving structure and aeration — important for high traffic areas — and provides essential mineral nutrition to the turf.

“We know from our customers that the player experience is the most important priority,” said Rich Zap, the company’s director of sales, who has been working closely with golf course superintendents on the development of GreenLight. “Golfers want high-quality greens that give them the best opportunity to play well. Superintendents and agronomists are aiming for turf that is firm but not hard, which can recover quickly from ball impact, leaving the putting surface perfect for the next player. GreenLight contributes to that by improving soil texture and enhancing root growth for better quality turf.”

Superintendents can choose from three formulations, GreenLight Ca, Mg and S, to suit their agronomic requirements, and three grades, granule sizes from SCN 50 to 400, to suit the playing surface. GreenLight fits into existing fertilizer programs and can be spread using standard equipment. It is low in dust and highly soluble, making it easy to apply without affecting ball play.

“The choice of formulations gives flexibility depending on the time of year and the agronomic requirements, which can be identified easily through soil sampling,” Zap said.
