MET Area Team Championships deemed a success

Poconos Turfgrass Association wins 13-chapter event at Quaker Ridge.

The 35th MET Area Team Championships was recently conducted at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, N.Y. The Poconos Turfgrass Association won the 13-team event with a score of 294, edging the Hudson Valley GCSA by three strokes. The MET GCSA finished third at 299. Other participating chapters included the Long Island GCSA, Philadelphia AGCS, Central New York GCSA, Connecticut AGCS, GCSA of Cape Cod, GCSA of New Jersey, Rhode Island GCSA, GCSA of New England, Eastern Shore AGCS and Northeastern GCSA.

Tom Ashfield served as the host superintendent for the event. Quaker Ridge is a par 70 course designed by Hall of Fame architect A.W. Tillinghast.

The 50/50 raffle portion of the event raised more than $1,000 for members of the industry going through hardships. Aquatrols, BASF, Bayer, Care of Trees, Koch Turf & Ornamental, Syngenta and Toro are the annual event’s cornerstone industry partners.

The Country Club of Scranton (Pa.) will host the 2016 tournament.
