Notre Dame, Ind. - Matt Cielen has been named Superintendent of the Notre Dame Golf Courses. In his position, he will oversee the daily operations of the University's 18-hole Warren and nine-hole Burke Memorial golf courses.
Prior to coming to Notre Dame, Cielen was the first assistant superintendent at the Point O'Woods Golf and Country Club in Benton Harbor, Mich. In addition, he was a field consultant for ArborCom Technologies of Shelburne Canada.
Cielen graduated with honors from Michigan State's two-year turf management program in 2001and attended Jackson Community College.
A native of Jackson, Mich., Cielen was assistant superintendent at the Arbor Hills Country Club Jackson, Mich. He also was employed at the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., and the Shadow Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev.
He is a member of the Golf Course Superintendent Association of America, the Western Michigan Golf Course Superintendents Association and Michiana Golf Course Superintendents Association and the Michigan Turfgrass Foundation. He also is a certified spray technician in the state of Michigan.
