Joe Steranka, chief executive officer of PGA of America, will leave the position at the end of the year.
Steranka, who has been PGA's CEO for the past 6 1/2 years, informed his staff of his decision Tuesday after returning from the Masters in Augusta, Ga.
"I started at the PGA when I attended the 1988 Masters," Steranka said. "This was my 25th one, so I think the timing is appropriate."
Steranka started at the PGA of America in 1988 as director of communications and became CEO in November 2005.
"Let's not make a big deal about this," he said. "I'm still here for a while with work to do. We've grown the game at the grass-roots level over the years. I'm happy that a transition plan will be in place."
