Superintendents came to San Antonio looking for education and new equipment.

The Golf Industry Show brings in superintendents from all over the world – sometimes braving some intense weather to get to the show. Here are a few reasons why superintendents make the trip:

“Definitely the education. Everyone’s always trying to stay current in the most cost-effective manner, elevating your course and using the latest and greatest that comes out. And this is where you first see that.”

David Robertson
Hillwood Country Club
Nashville, Tenn.

“I’m looking for equipment and irrigation heads, and then the education, too. We’re going through a lot of drought right now, and it’s good to discuss everything with everybody, to get their ideas and thoughts.”

Kevin Kuehne
Tahoe Donner Golf Club
Truckee, Cali.

“I’m an owner/operator, so I’m my own superintendent, and I’m looking for new products. I’ve got a pretty basic course, and I’m looking at greensmowers and carts. We’re expanding our cart fleet – I’m hoping for more rounds this year. I’ve been in it 22 years, I know there are ups and downs.”

Tom Willis
Green Briar Golf Club
Morris, Ala.

“I’m looking at some roughs mowers, some greens overseeders. We did the education sessions, but mostly it’s just the trade show. There’s always new ideas and accessories.”

Tim Knutson
Pinebrook Golf and Country Club
Calgary, Alberta

“I’m looking for a lease this year – I’m due, it’s been about four years since the last time we changed fairway units. And there are always new gadgets and gizmos to see. I’m checking out pond agitators, too. We’ve got a lot of water and we’re on a lake, so we can’t really use a lot of products. It’s tricky.”
