Cimarron Hills hires new superintendent

20-plus-year industry vet Terry Negen heads to Texas club from Arizona’s Desert Mountain.

Terry Negen is the new golf course superintendent at Cimarron Hills Golf & Country Club in Georgetown, Texas. Negen will oversee maintenance of the club’s 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Design golf course, its expansive golf practice facilities and the club’s agronomy team.

Negen has been a golf course superintendent for more than 20 years, working at clubs in Minnesota, Iowa and Arizona. He most recently served as the golf course superintendent for the Geronimo Course at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona.

He has also served on the board of directors of the local chapters of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America in Minnesota and Iowa, and has mentored dozens of current superintendents across the country.

“The team and membership are very excited to attract a talent like Terry,” Cimarron Hills GM Robbie Kearney said. “We are looking forward to welcoming Terry and all of his experience, which will be invaluable to his team and the membership as we continue to improve agronomic playing conditions.”

Originally from Montevideo, Minnesota, Negen enjoys playing golf and finding the “next great dive restaurant with great food” in his spare time.

“I go by the motto, if I want my team to do tasks, I will be in the trenches right along with them,” Negen said. “I look forward to making Cimarron Hills the talk of the great state of Texas and bringing tournament-quality conditions to the membership.”

Cimarron Hills is located in Georgetown, Texas, between Austin and the Hill Country. Managed by Troon Privé, the private club operating division of Troon, it opened on New Year’s Day in 2003.
