Arizona Golf Hall inducts Troon SVP Spangler

The Arizona Golf Hall of Fame inducted a quintet of new members last week, including Jeff Spangler, Troon senior vice president of science and agronomy, during a ceremony at Paradise Valley Country Club.

Spangler is one of the leading agronomic experts in the world of golf. He began his Troon career at Troon North Golf Club, where he opened the industry-leading club with Troon founder and now-executive chairman Dana Garmany and brought a new level of agronomic conditioning to the resort/daily-fee course world. Spangler received a promotion in 1993 to director of agronomy and was later promoted to senior vice president of science and agronomy. He continues to oversee all agronomic programs for Troon.

Spangler has been instrumental in standardizing high-level golf course agronomics, including environmental conservation, occupational safety and economic management across a global platform of more than 500 golf courses located in 45 states and 33 countries.

Under Spangler’s agronomic leadership, Troon facilities have received numerous awards and accolades, including multiple courses ranked as “Best Conditioned Golf Course in the U.S.” by Golf Digest and Golf Advisor. Prior to joining Troon, Spangler worked at Scioto Country Club, Muirfield Village Golf Club and The Pebble Beach Company.

The rest of the 2019 Arizona Golf Hall of Fame class included journalist John Davis, business industry leader Doug Hawken, club management veteran Richard Kopplin and professional golfer and architect Tom Lehman. The hall now includes 72 individuals inducted over the last 51 years.
