SARASOTA, Fla. - Officials in Sarasota County, along with members of the golf industry, have finalized a working draft for county-wide golf course development standards for future and existing courses.
As reported in the April 2003 issue of Golf Course News, the standards will integrate the best management practices developed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Florida Water Management District and will cover requirements including site acreage, buffer zones, setbacks, open space, stormwater and drainage, water use, habitat management, and construction and post-construction monitoring.
The draft proposal was submitted to the county’s Board of Commissioners May 28. According to Dorthea Zysko, resources protection services manager for the county, the next step will be three more committee meetings in June and a scheduled Board of Commissioners public hearing in July.
