In Minnesota, The Meadows at Mystic Lake plans for upgrades

Owned and operated by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, the course will be reworked by Paul Miller Design.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community announced that the tribe will make significant improvements to its award-winning golf course, The Meadows at Mystic Lake, in Prior Lake, Minnesota. The tribe selected the golf course architecture firm Paul Miller Design, based in Northfield, Minnesota, for the project.

“Surrounded by acres of wildflowers and prairie plants with water on 13 holes, The Meadows is already a high-caliber golf course, and the design and maintenance of our course are second to none,” SMSC chairman Keith Anderson said. “We have an opportunity with these improvements to make our course even more unique and are excited to see these concepts realized.”

The planned changes will build on the course’s strong sequence of finishing holes and enhance the golf course’s practice area. Improvements will include:

  • Upgrades to the “Mesa” practice area to feature a large multi-level putting and chipping green, practice bunkers, practice fairway chipping areas, 19th hole shoot-out tees, and tournament seating overlooking the 18th hole.
  • Adding tee space, playing variety and challenge, and esthetic improvements to the par 3 17th hole.
  • Enhanced construction technologies to ensure the stability of the timber wall along the approach area fairway and green.
  • A distinct new bridge from the green over the Mesa Burn to the clubhouse.

Construction on the projects is set to begin this summer, with the improvements anticipated to be complete by the 2023 golf season.

Surrounded by 11 acres of wildflowers and prairie plants, The Meadows at Mystic Lake features pristine bentgrass fairways, tees and greens. More than 20,000 rounds are played on the course each year.
