Pound it home
Pat Jones’ column “Don’t try this at home” (page 70 in the May issue) is another great article. Pat should keep pounding this message home. I’m at it constantly and actually overheard a conversation in the pro shop one weekend where an old guy told his friends about the megabucks spent for the TV courses and their preparation/conditioning.

Pat Jones had a great editorial (“Don’t try this at home,” page 70) in the May issue. All of the Heather and Gorse community in Pennsylvania would be proud of his ongoing sarcasm toward the ignorance and attitudes of some country club members and PGA touring pros. I especially liked the popping pimples comment and, not one, but the two busts on Johnny “The Yipper” Miller, whose destiny has been fulfilled by supplanting Ken Venturi as the worst color man in the TV golf world.

I finished reading Pat Jones’ article/rant/vent (“Don’t try this at home”) in the May issue (on page 70). Kudos to him and Paul Jett. I always wondered how Johnny Miller could see all that grain in those greens from up in his ivory tower behind the 18th green. Pardon my French, but what a dweeb. I wonder if I shave my head down to 1/16 of an inch, like most televised tournament greens, Miller would be able to find some grain or colicks on my dome? Keep up the good work.

I had to write a short note thanking Pat Jones for his fantastic article (“Don’t try this at home,” page 70) in May issue. I work in the golf shop at a private course in Ocala, Fla., and I hear it all. I also had the great experience of owning my own little Par 3 course, and even the old duffers and ingrates that played our course had the nerve to complain. So when I read his article, it more than hit home. I hope everyone reads it, including the blithering blond bozo in the broadcast booth. Keep up the great work and for keeping it real.
