Water Wagon A 500-gallon liquid fertilizer “tote” has been converted into a water wagon for operating pressure washers where there is no water available and for watering plants that have no irrigation. A 5-foot x 8-foot trailer covered with pressure-treated 2-inch x 6-inch lumber with 5.30-inch x 12-inch tires was purchased from Northern Tool, (#125692-2106) for $519 where the tote is held in place with 2-inch x 2-inch angle iron. The chemical-safe 9,000-gallons-per-hour pump produces 44 psi with a 100-foot head, with a 2-inch discharge outlet, was also acquired from Northern Tool (#109607-2106) for $250, which has a 5.5-horsepower, 127-cc Briggs & Stratton engine. The white-colored 1½-inch diameter PVC pipe “boom” shown at the top of the tote has ¼-inch diameter holes drilled into it and it is used to water dusty cart paths similar to a water truck. Tom Rainey, golf course superintendent, and Dave Mealy, equipment manager, at the Heron Creek Golf & Country Club in North Port, Fla., did the conversion, which took about 4 hours. Bed Liner Tom Rainey, golf course superintendent, and Dave Mealy, equipment manager, at the Heron Creek Golf & Country Club in North Port, Fla., wanted to protect the dump beds on their new, leased Cushman Turf-Trucksters for when they are turned back in after the lease expires. Mealy applied Herculiner 1 Kit Bedliner, (#HCL188) costing $85. This product provides a skid-resistant textured surface using a pre-mixed polyurethane advanced coating containing rubber granules. A brush is used to apply the product in tight spots and in the corners and a roller is used in the remaining larger areas of the bed. It took about two hours to mask the untreated areas and to apply the product, which dries to the touch in one to three hours and is usable in nine to 12 hours. The approximate cost savings was $1,415 by using the $85 Herculiner versus buying a $1,500 bedliner from the manufacturer. |
