Hurdzan/Fry book Chronicles partnership

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Hurdzan/Fry Golf Course Design has published a new book titled “Selected Golf Courses by Hurdzan/Fry: Photos and Essays Vol. 1,” featuring 29 selected golf courses that chronicle the collaborative work of Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry. Hurdzan, who is a member of the Golf Course News editorial advisory board, wrote the text of the book. The book is 384 pages and features nearly 300 color photographs and 29 color renderings. It may be purchased from www.hurdzanfry.com and at selected bookstores and golf shops nationwide for $75.

Freeland, Quality Grassing restore Greens

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Woodlands Country Club here is undergoing a major renovation of all the greens on its East Course, as well as the practice green. Jacksonville-based Freeland Golf is overseeing design work, while reigning Golf Course News Large Builder of the Year winner Quality Grassing & Services of Lithia is handling the construction. Construction began in late April and was scheduled for completion last month. Woodlands CC will reopen in time for the Nov. 1 start to the winter season.

Case redesigns Woodlands course

HOUSTON - Golf course designer Roy Case has completed his third golf course in the Houston area, a complete redesign of The Pines Course at The Woodlands. As part of the redesign, the course was renamed Panther Trail. Case said the course is substantially different from its previous incarnation. He also said that, aside from telling him to make the course more “player friendly” and to design a memorable finishing hole with an island green, the owners of the property gave him free rein, provided he stay within the $3.5 million budget.
