The Sacconnesset Golf Society LLC has announced the purchase of The Golf Club of Cape Cod, succeeding New Falmouth Golf LLC as owners of the private, golf-only club opened in 2007. The purchase price was not disclosed. The newly formed club will be known as TGC (The Golf Club) and will be governed by a club member board of directors. As a result of the purchase and successful member equity program, TGC will have no debt.
"This is an exciting time for TGC" managing partner Gene Crowley said. "In a short period of time, over two-thirds of our membership has opted to become equity members. That says a lot about the culture of our club and the club’s most valued asset, the members.”
Kevin Delbridge, also a managing partner, added, “While many private clubs wrestle with indebtedness, we are very fortunate to be debt free. As a result of our equity raise, we will be making significant capital improvements in 2016 to the golf course, unquestionably the best in the region.”
Capital improvements scheduled in 2016 include refurbishment of bunkers, improvements to cart paths and enhancements in playability for all skill levels under the watchful eye of famed golf course architect Rees Jones.
In announcing the purchase, the board expressed their gratitude to former managing partner Martin Shaevel. “He built the foundation of a world-class club,” board member Brian McLaughlin said. “As equity partners in TGC, we are truly stewards of the club’s mission that is focused on competition, tradition and camaraderie.”
Managing partner Jack Laurendeau said the board has announced that CEO Charles T. Passios, PGA director of golf Doug Erhalt and golf course Stoyan Muhov will be retained.
Opened for play in June 2007, the 7,047-yard, Par 72 golf course was designed by Rees Jones. According to the Cape Cod Commission, the regional governing authority for land conservation, TGC will be the last golf course built from undeveloped land on Cape Cod. TGC will be host to Massachusetts Golf Association’s Mid-Amateur Championship in 2016 and the Massachusetts Open Championship in 2017.
